$15.00

Third Thursdays on Admiral Boulevard you’ll find special events and extended hours at up and down the street at all of our awesome neighbors! Each month at Community Craft it’s Craftivism Night, and we feature a beginner friendly craft activity each month. This time it’s Crochet, so you can make items to Donte to Tulsa Food Not Bombs, who will be our special guest for July!! We’re excited to learn about their work, and help spread word about the extremely important support they offer our community.

For teens & adults. Please attend knowing that we avoid censoring conversations and/or verbiage used in craftivism projects.

Suggested fee: $15, materials provided. Your contribution helps to cover the cost of supplies, and keep the lights on! Also, $5 from each fee for 7/16 will go to Tulsa Food Not Bombs

Not familiar with Craftivism? Craftivism(craft + activism) is a form of social and political protest that uses handmade, traditional crafts - such as knitting, cross stitch, quilting, beading, etc, to advocate for social change. Coined in 2003 by Betsy Greer, it often focuses on "gentle protest" to raise awareness, build community, and encourage reflection. Craftivism is about the heart-centered action behind creating with our hands.

Key Aspects of Craftivism:

  • Channeling emotions into constructive, personal, and possibly public artistic actions

  • Methods: It includes embroidery, knitting, crochet, quilting (e.g., The AIDS Memorial Quilt), and many other textile arts

  • "Gentle Protest": Coined by organizations like the Craftivist Collective, this approach favors slow, thoughtful, and often quiet acts that encourage thoughtful dialogue and reflection

  • Accessibility: Craftivism allows individuals to engage with causes at their own pace, often serving as an entry point for the many possibilities we can all access to affect social change
