Make your own Witch Hat! Saturday, 10/18, 1-4pm
All you witchy crafters might have seen the viral quilted witch hats from The Prairie Misfit…maybe you’ve even sent us one of the videos! Now you can join us for this whirlwind three hour workshop to learn to make your own!
Mary Perisho (Mary Make & Do) and Emily Landry (Quiltbag) will lead you through the steps to create your own witch hat from quilt pieces, tapestry blankets, or other fabrics.
Materials & Tools provided:
copy of the pattern
cutting tools
sewing machines & thread
all called-for interfacing
Please bring:
Fabrics! You will need approximately 1 yard of fabric or equivalent sized quilt, tapestry blanket, etc for the exterior and brim of your hat, and 1 yard of fabric for lining the inside of the hat. HOWEVER if you are using a quilt or other layered fabric for your hat, you may need just ½ yard of lining fabric.*
Other considerations: Do you have any random quilt blocks, special trim, or other precious scraps you’ve been squirreling away for the perfect project? This might be it! Bring any special extras you might want to use to decorate your magical hat. This pattern lends itself well to applique and other fun additions
If you have a sewing machine of your own that you are happy to use, please do!
This workshop is best for adults and teens who have a basic understanding of using a sewing machine. If you have not used a sewing machine before or for many years, we suggest taking Mary’s Beginner Sewing Class first! This class is limited to 8 students, but we will add a second class on Saturday 10/25 if this one sells out.
*Community Craft has a variety of suitable fabric options available for purchase in store, including yardage of quilting cottons from Owl & Drum, vintage fabrics from Bifftastica, and second-hand fabrics. If you wish to purchase your fabrics day-of, please plan to come a little early to make your choices!
