NEW DATE! Saturdays 10/3 & 10/24: Knit a Sophie Scarf dupe! 10am-12pm
Fall is coming, and now is the perfect time to knit up a Sophie Scarf dupe! Using the (free!) pattern The Simple Thing by Martina Brell, this shallow triangle shaped scarf is knit sideways from point to point in garter stitch, with an i-cord border you knit as you go.
You will learn or practice the following skills:
Garter stitch (all knit stitches!)
I-cord border
Simple increases and decreases
Tracking rows for increases and decreases
Being able to make a knit stitch is the only skill you really need to make this pattern with us — Emily will teach you everything else you need to know!
The first class, you will see a demonstration of each of the necessary skills for the first half as you work through the beginning of the pattern. Then you’ll go home with a plan for continuing to knit your scarf to the halfway point. In the second class, you’ll see a demonstration of the decreases needed to shape the second half of the scarf as well as binding off, and discuss finishing techniques like weaving in ends and blocking your scarf.
Everything you need is available for purchase at the shop, or you can bring your own materials! You will want:
1 skein of fingering, sport, or DK weight yarn (Kelbourne Woolens Cozy or Scout, Koigu Painters Palette Premium Merino, Toil & Trouble Neon Confetti Sock Yarn are all good options we carry in the shop, and there are many other secondhand yarns that would also work well)
Knitting needles in a size recommended for your yarn. Single Point straight needles or Circular needles both work, you can use what you prefer.
Stitch markers, locking/removable stitch markers recommended
A blunt darning or tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Your class registration will include a sample packet of SOAK wash in the scent of your choice to block your final project!
This class is designed for teen or adult knitters, with newbie AND experienced knitters very welcome! If you know how to do a knit stitch, we can teach you the rest!
CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY:
We understand that sometimes your plans need to change. Just let us know within 48 hours (or as soon as you know!) that you won’t be able to make it, and you will receive credit to another class of your choice. Please understand, if you do not contact us, no class credit will be given so that class instructors will still be paid for your enrollment. If a class does not meet minimum enrollment, you will have the opportunity to transfer your enrollment for credit in another class.
