Thursday 5/28 and 6/11: Knitting Badge Neckerchief, 6-8:30pm

$60.00

Just because it’s warming up, doesn’t mean you can’t keep knitting and even wearing handknit items! Join Emily Landry in this two part class to make the Knitting Badge Neckerchief by @NiklasKnits (free on Ravelry).

This is one of those potato chip projects that you might find yourself making again and again (Emily’s working on a 4th one right now!). This triangular shaped mini scarf is a great skill builder as well as an extremely flexible and customizable pattern. You will learn or practice the following skills:

  • Garter stitch

  • Easy lace knitting effect from yarn overs and dropped stitches

  • M1L and M1R increases

  • Keeping track of pattern repeats and using stitch markers effectively.

Being able to make a knit stitch is the only skill you really need to make this pattern with us — Emily will teach you everything else you need to know!

The first night you will see a demonstration of each of the necessary skills as you work through the beginning of the pattern. Then you’ll go home with a plan for continuing to knit your scarf. On the second night, you’ll have time to do some more knitting, discuss strategies for binding off, and discuss finishing techniques like weaving in ends and blocking your scarf.

Everything you need is available for purchase at the shop, or you can bring your own materials! You will want:

  • 50-100 gram skein of fingering, sport, or DK weight yarn (we suggest Kelbourne Woolens Mojave or Perennial, Dandoh Linen, Alchemy Fiber Silken Straw, all available at Community Craft)

  • Knitting needles on the larger side of what’s recommended for your yarn. Circular needles are nice as your scarf grows wider as you knit each row.

  • Stitch markers, including at least one locking/removable stitch marker

  • A blunt darning or tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Your class registration will include a sample packet of SOAK wash in the scent of your choice to block your final project!

This class is designed for teen or adult knitters, with newbie AND experienced knitters very welcome!
